The Jung Institute is presenting a film screening and a panel dedicated to Catherine McGilvray’s “Fellini e l’ombra” (Fellini and the Shadow)
(IT/CH, 2021. Fiction, Documentary. Italian with English subtitles)
The Mercurius Prize committee is pleased to award Catherine McGilvray with the Mercurius Prize for her film “Fellini e l’ombra”.
The Mercurius Prize (www.mercuriusprize.com), headquartered in Zurich, is an award which honors films that show sensitive treatment of psychological themes and promote increased consciousness and responsibility on both individual and social/collective levels.
The awarding ceremony will take place after the film screening. The panel and the discussion, moderated by historian Giovanni Sorge, will include the director Catherine McGilvray, Jungian Analyst and Mercurius Prize president Murray Stein as well as Jungian analyst and film director Peter Ammann.
The Italian Oscar-winning director was a great reader and admirer of Jung, who influenced several of his movies, such as “La dolce vita”, “8 and 1⁄2” and “Giulietta degli spiriti”. The movie also speaks of Ernst Bernhard, the German physician who firstly introduced Jungian analysis in Italy and was highly inspiring for Fellini.
Jungian analysts such as Peter Ammann (who worked with Fellini for several years) and Christian Gaillard (who wrote about Fellini’s dream book) appear in the film, which is also enriched by historical archival images and animation scenes. Moreover, a visit paid by Fellini to Jung’s Bollingen tower is reconstructed. The film was produced by Verdiana, Istituto Luce Cinecittà and Céleste Images.
The event is patronized and supported by the Mercurius Prize and organized in collaboration with ISAPZURICH and the Italian Institute of Culture in Switzerland.
An apéro will follow.
